I seem to be in a knitting groove for summer, trying to create useful clothes and salable patterns. Making some cool progress; completed the Parrot shirt and my first set of shorts, both of which are made in one go, and I'm quite proud of this. Linked pics in the Read More!
Well, I sewed a costume together, but there doesn't seem to be a place for it in the main website. There is, however, place for the knitted version, which is on the table of current projects. That blue dragon, though...I got to wear it to a taping of "Let's Make a Deal!" I'm quite proud of it, I had to whip it out in a week (with a couple of days to plan it), and it barely fit, and I barely finished it in time...I literally worked on it until I got in line. There were some technical issues, of course; first sewn stuffed animal/costume combo, not enough time to get it right. However, the pattern is being perfected while I knit it, and then it will be for sale in my Etsy shop.
I have received a commission to adjust the 1/2 K/C shirt pattern, so I've been working on that for the past couple of days...hopefully it will be ready by tomorrow!
I've also begun a scarf with a dragon pic on it, and I want to make a hat in the shape of a dragon--and if that succeeds, I will also make one out of a bat, and possibly a bird, and other creatures with wide areas of skin. And a metamorphosing toy that flips from an egg to a caterpillar to a cocoon to a butterfly! That would probably take more yarn than I've got, but it would be REALLY neat to make! I'm trying to get a complete one finished; the red one turns out not to have enough of the "sunshine" print, stupid limited dye lots...now I have to finish 3 more fans, each of which takes about 6 hours (knitting is waaay too slow but the most efficient with materials), and then make a new shirt and skirt.
Then ideally I'd make a male counterpart and have a nice complimentary... The first attempt at my dancing costume was quite a success! The skirt looks kinda weird due to stitching, but it's my first cross of knitting and crochet. I will post a picture when I find a suitable stage/studio.
The fan portion worked much like I had originally planned; I thought I would need to add weights to make it swing, but that actually hindered the effect. It works much better without beads on a string. All I need to do now is look up fan-dancing... And darn! I don't see any fans like mine, which have no structure and work by centrifugal force. If anyone can show me where to find one so I don't have to learn to dance with them all by myself, I would really appreciate it! There are but 3 days left until Halloween, and I must hurry to finish the latest costume...I want to wear it on a short outing at least, and there is one more piece that needs to be finished...straws, while reasonable for creating stitches coupled with crochet hooks, are not the most effective knitting tools.
